We are setting you up for success, but you must play your part.
This was the message CIBC Caribbean’s Chief Human Resources Officer Janine Billy shared as she welcomed just over 80 bright young men and women spread across the branches and offices of eight of the bank’s ten territories as part of the annual summer internship programme.
“We are excited about giving you the opportunity to set you up for success,” she told the interns, many of them final year or recent university graduates. However, she told them that they also had a part to play.
In Saint Lucia, Godnia Lima, a Business student at Sir Arthur Lewis Community College describes her attachment at CIBC Caribbean Corporate division as “fascinating and an eye opener”.
According to Ms. Lima, until this opportunity, her ideas about banking were primarily from the perspective of customer service.
“Now I’m seeing how a bank works with businesses - helping them with loans, managing their accounts, supporting their financial needs and growing their operations. It’s opened my eyes to a whole new world of banking.”
She added that the experience has given her a much broader understanding of the banking industry.
