Saint Lucia Labour Party’s 2035 Vision builds on first term successes

The Saint Lucia Labour Party’s 2025 Manifesto promises to “to make Saint Lucia the most technologically driven Small Island Developing State by 2035, so that its citizens can produce valuable goods and services in an efficient and sustainable way, while taking advantage of the growing benefits of the digital global space.”


The SLP manifesto focuses on tourism as a major economic driver which will ensure that ‘nationals enjoy more benefits and have a stake, directly or indirectly, in the tourism industry’.


An SLP administration intends to build on cruise tourism through the ongoing works by Global Ports Holdings, to improve the capacity for larger ships and facilities, and the modernisation and functionality of the Castries cruise port and the Soufriere waterfront.


The SLP also intends to encourage home porting and push for cruise-related businesses to source local supplies, food, crafts and services to strengthen links with other sectors.


A Labour Party administration will aim to increase the Tourism Accommodation room stock by 1000 ‘through a series of strategic operational and investment initiatives’.


It will encourage local ownership in the shared accommodation [Airbnb] sector through specifically tailored incentives establish a Tourism Training Institute to include customer service, digital marketing, culinary training and sustainable tourism practices.


The Labour Party manifesto also intends to ‘establish an Orange Economy Unit which will help coordinate the work of the Ministry of Culture, CDF, Export Saint Lucia and Invest Saint Lucia in the modernisation, training, marketing and export of cultural and artistic products and services’.


Among the initiatives for Agriculture is the commissioning of a meat processing facility and the establishment of a special loan grant facility at the SLDB for farmers, fishers and agro processors.


For manufacturing there will be the establishment of a FRESH hub – a Food Research, Enterprise, Science and Health HACCP certified facility.


There will be focus on the advancement of a maritime industry and this will include upgrades to the Vieux-Fort port and the establishment of a modern Saint Lucia Ship Registry.
