Tapion Hospital celebrates Icons and Founders as institution turns 30

Tapion Hospital has held a special ceremony celebrating the Icons and Founders who laid the foundation for the locally owned and managed medical institution.


The institution celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2026 is honoring its Icons and Founders who helped shape the institution through dedication, leadership and commitment.


Dr. Romel Daniel, the Chairman of the Tapion Hospital Board of Directors noted the wisdom and vision of the founders who sought to establish a medical institution that would withstand the test of time.


A Wall of Fame unveiled in the reception area of the hospital immortalises the founders and icons for their service, compassion and commitment to excellence and community.


It is hoped that the Wall of Icons and Founders will remind future generations of those who helped shape the foundation, values and spirit of Tapion Hospital.


Among the founders was Dr. Kenneth Richardson, Dr. Stephen King, Dr. Jacqueline Bird and Dr. Martin Didier and Dr. Owen King.


Attorney at Law and King’s Counsel Sir Michael Gordon the only lawyer in that esteemed group is also a founding member along with Dr. Emsco Remy and Dr. Leonard Surage.


Tapion Hospital a 30-bed medical hospital was established in 1996, years after its conception in the late 1980s. It is now touted as a leading medical institution in the Eastern Caribbean.
