NURC publishes decision on WASCO’s request for tariff increase
Published on June 22, 2026

The National Utilities Regulatory Commission [NURC] has arrived at a Final Determination on WASCO’s application for an increase in water rates.
That decision has been published on NURC’s website.
The Final Determination is the culmination of a comprehensive review process that included detailed analysis of WASCO’s application, public consultations, stakeholder engagement, and consideration of written submissions received from interested parties.
Given the magnitude of the tourism sector’s water consumption and its significance to the national economy, the Commission also held direct discussions with sector representatives to ensure that the proposed adjustments would not have an undue adverse impact on their operations.

NURC Director Mary Polius adds that most attendees at these consultations supported an increase on condition that WASCO improves service nationwide.
The WASCO tariff increase will be phased in over two years, starting in June 2026.
The NURC has also decided that the most vulnerable will be exempt from the tariff increase. Chairman Nervais explained that “the basic tier which is 0-2000 gallons will not see an increase in rates”.
The public is invited to read NURC’s final determination by visiting its website www.nurc.org.lc
