Planned road closure and safety protocols for Halls of Justice Project

As preparatory works advance on the Halls of Justice Project, NH International (Caribbean) Ltd. has confirmed that approval is being sought for a planned closure of a short section of Laborie Street, from its junction with Micoud Street to the left turn into William Peter Boulevard.

If approved, this closure is required as a Health & Safety measure for the construction activities related to the recently erected Tower Crane.

It is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of both workers and the public as heavy plant and materials are moved across the site. Importantly, traffic along Micoud Street itself will not be affected.

The Halls of Justice foot print spans two sites in the centre of Castries, with the main building located at the corner of Laborie Street and William Peter Boulevard and an annex at Micoud and Laborie Streets.

The two buildings will be connected by a sky bridge over West Hall Lane, together covering more than 110,000 square feet of modern court and registry space. Central to the construction process is a state-of-the-art tower crane, already stationed on the project site at the former location of the First District Court.

This computerised crane will be the primary mode of transferring heavy mechanical and electrical plant and materials across Laborie Street to the two building sites, which together will house the new Halls of Justice complex. The crane is fitted with advanced safety systems, including audible alarms and warning lights that activate whenever loads are in motion.
