Philip J. Pierre and the Saint Lucia Labour Party has been returned to office with an improved majority, increasing the seat tally by one.
The Labour Party now has 14 seats with the main opposition United Workers Party managing to hold on to the Micoud South seat won by Allen Chastanet. He has since resigned as leader of the UWP.
There are four new SLP Parliamentarians John Paul Estaphane of Babonneau, Lisa Jawahir of Castries South-East, Keithson Charles of Choiseul and Danny Butcher of Vieux-Fort South.
At his swearing in ceremony Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre said he was overjoyed and grateful to the people of Saint Lucia for re-electing him noting the trust and confidence that was placed in his administration and its policy proposals.
Mr. Pierre pledged to remember the vulnerable and differently abled community promising to work towards a more equitable society and to continue interventions for those most in need.
The Prime Minister also committed to focusing on disenchanted young males who are disengaged and in need of more desirable alternatives.
Mr. Pierre said a new SLP administration will expand the youth economy, increased concentration on education, the purple and blue economy and double down on community tourism initiatives.
Fiscal responsibility and debt curtailment will continue to pre-occupy the new government.
Capital programmes include the upgrade of the Hewanorra International Airport, improvement to the water supply infrastructure, the development and expansion of seaports and the construction of bus terminals.
There will be continued government investment in citizen security with the construction of a new police headquarters.
