On 15 March 2026, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) joined the global community to celebrate World Consumer Rights Day under the theme: “Safe Products, Confident Consumers.”

Improvements in consumer welfare are an important objective of the OECS. According to the Director General of the OECS, Dr Didacus Jules, “When suppliers ensure that their products are safe and reasonably priced, the consumer and the wider economy benefit.” He further notes that the OECS Commission is actively implementing initiatives that ensure that OECS consumers are confident in the marketplace.

The OECS Commission remains dedicated to supporting continuous legislative and institutional strengthening of National Consumer Affairs (NCA) Departments across the economic union, by providing technical and financial support to address day-to-day operational gaps that affect how they serve citizens in a digital economy.

The OECS Commission is advancing a legislative framework under the Free Circulation of Goods regime, through the harmonisation of model legislation across Member States.

This initiative seeks to ensure that products placed on the market within the OECS Economic Union meet consistent and high safety standards, thereby promoting consumer confidence and facilitating the seamless movement of goods within the region.
