Roughly two years after the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Monetary Council voted to remove the image of Queen Elizabeth II from the EC dollar, it appears that directive will be followed in 2027.

The ECCB Governor Timothy Antoine says the new EC dollar with images representing Eastern Caribbean personalities may be unveiled in July this year when the region marks the 50th anniversary of the EC dollar peg at EC$2.70 to US$1.00.

“It is going to be a phased approach, and we expect in all likelihood that the f irst set of notes will be revealed and made available in 2027” the Governor told regional journalists.

“But the actual circulation of the first set of notes with our images and likeness of our people will start in 2027 and will be phased over a period of time” the Governor promised.
