ECCB courts Afreximbank for the Big Push

Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Timothy N.J. Antoine recently welcomed a high-level delegation from the African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank) to the ECCB Headquarters in Saint Christopher (St Kitts) and Nevis.



The Afreximbank delegation was led by its President, Dr George Elombi, supported by its Executive VP, Kanayo Awani, and a team. 

Governor Antoine said Afreximbank is an important international partner as the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) seeks to mobilise resources to finance its development.


Mr. Antoine says a number of project ideas and flagships were discussed among them food, nutrition and energy security and connectivity and logistics.


The meeting also focused on the proposed Caricom Payments and Settlement Systems, CAPS, which is modelled on the Pan African Payments and Settlement Systems PAPSS which the Afreximbank pioneered 4 years ago.


The ECCB Governor says the ECCB wants to take it forward for to improve trade payments within CARICOM and ultimately to be able to do trade payments with Africa Afreximbank as an important international partner.


The ECCB is also looking to mobilise resources for the financing of the regions development from Afreximbank.
