The Caribbean Shipping Lanes [CSL] has honored a visionary whose leadership has fundamentally changed the Caribbean’s seat at the global maritime table.
This is the honor bestowed on Dr. Jan Yves Remy on International Women’s Day by the CSL Spotlight special Women’s Day edition.
The publication notes that ‘While serving as the Director of the Shridath Ramphal Centre for Int’l Trade Law, Policy and Services, Dr. Remy identified a critical vulnerability, the absence of robust Caribbean representation at the International Maritime Organization. This realization led her to found the Caribbean Shipping Lanes (CSL) Project in 2024’.
Under her guidance, the CSL Project became the technical backbone for regional maritime advocacy. It provides Caribbean delegations with the high level coordination, evidence based research, and technical support necessary to navigate complex international negotiations, and ensure the region’s voice is heard on the global stage.
Dr. Remy’s advice to the next generation of women leaders: “Lead your organization with conviction and believe in its strength. This belief will f low through to how you lead, how you encourage others, and how you navigate adversity. Remember, your leadership by example is always more important than your words”.
