Community tourism is key to a diversified economy

The Secretary-General of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation Dona Regis-Prosper has spoken on repositioning Caribbean tourism as a bankable, investable and diversified economic sector.

She was at the time addressing the CAF International Economic Forum Latin America and Caribbean 2026 in Panama.
Speaking during the panel “Boosting Tourism Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean,” Mrs. Regis-Prosper highlighted CTO’s Reimagine Plan, which expands the region’s value proposition through community-based tourism, authentic cultural experiences, the orange economy, sports tourism, health tourism and niche market development.
Her message centered on moving the region from tourism promotion to tourism positioning, strengthening partnerships across Latin America and the Caribbean, and building a coordinated investment ecosystem that attracts long-term, high-impact capital.
In addition, Narendra Ramgulam, Deputy Director of Sustainable Tourism at CTO, also attended the forum and participated in high-level discussions with the Organization of American States (OAS), advancing dialogue on sustainable tourism development and regional cooperation.
