Eileen Paul scholarships to be handed out today

The St. Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association is holding its 2025 Eileen Paul Scholarship Award ceremony today.

The scholarship programme was launched in 2021 by the SLHTA’s Tourism Enhancement Fund to provide financial support to secondary school students, whose parents are employed in the tourism industry.

Successful applicants receive a grant of EC$2000.00 annually for five years, once they maintain a grade point average of 70%. To date over forty students have been awarded the scholarship, with over EC $165,000 disbursed. This year sixteen students from around the island will receive the scholarship.

Monday’s ceremony will also feature the donation of 100 school bags to RISE Saint Lucia for their back-to-school initiative.

Among the speakers expected is the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture, and Information, Hon. Dr. Ernest Hilaire and President of RISE Saint Lucia Dr. Venus Cherry.

Eileen Paul has been fondly described on many occasions as the “heart and soul” of the Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (SLHTA).

She joined the organization in 1973 when it was called the Hotel Association at a time when there were only six hotels and seven restaurants as members.

She was instrumental in taking the then ‘Hotel Association’ to a completely new level after working tirelessly for years. She was a lone employee for 14 years.

In 1988, and with a growing membership, she oversaw the renaming of the organization to the St. Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association.

Eileen Paul’s career in tourism industry spanned five decades.
