Carnival fraternity honors icons in music and costume designing

Longstanding carnival costume designers, calypso writers, producers and arrangers were honored during last week’s media launch of Carnival 2026.

“Shinning” Emmanuel
Topping the list was Antonius ‘Secra’ Gibson who pioneered costume designing and introduced concepts in carnival band portrayals that were way ahead of its time.
Steelband/music arrranger and band leader of Diamond Steel Gregory ‘Shining’ Emmanuel who also headed a carnival outfit was celebrated for decades of service to the art of steelband.

Antonius ‘Secra’ Gibson
Trevor “JahTi” Anthony, songwriter, promoter and foundation contributor to the Take Over Tent was recognised for his contribution to calypso and soca music having won many titles over his decades of service to the artform.
Dylan Pitcairn, carnival costume designer, songwriter and strong proponent of carnival was honored for his creativity, groundbreaking carnival costume designs and for his advocacy in shifting the date of carnival from February to July.

“Jahti” Anthony
Heineken Saint Lucia was also recognised for its decades long support for Carnival in Saint Lucia, primarily through its Piton Brand.
The awards were presented by advocate and leading authority on carnival, broadcaster and presenter of Vaval Central Teddy Francis.
